Damn I'm aching...

Because of my sprained ankle and painful tooth I haven't been training much for the past two months and yesterday we had a really intense training session.
And now I'm feeling it >_<
When we were training line fighting there were no spears or pole-arms so it was rather intense close quarter fighting.
We still managed to route the other side quite regularly as they tended to fall back under our onslaught and eventually they collapsed again and again.

And tonight we have training again. Yay :)

And the weekend was quite good.
Friday was [livejournal.com profile] cyberglamours birthday drinks and we went to the a glorious Hungarian restaurant The Gay Hussar which was quite good and I definitely want to go there again.
Saturday was hectic as it was [livejournal.com profile] super_boobies's turn to have birthday drinks followed by a trip to Rockscene at The Dome in Tuffnell Park and then Slimes.
Had a good time at Slimes, got home waaaayyyy too late and slept right up until training Sunday.
All in all a great weekend and I'm suitably knackered today.

Met nice new people and got to see old friends I don't see nearly often enough...

Dang I'm tired.

Tooth is sorted thanks to the wonderful wonderful people at The Harley Street Dental Clinic.
The tooth was taken out, a cavity fixed, another potential new cavity sorted in advance of a worsening and my teeth cleaned.
And as promised I was completely out the entire time and never noticed a thing.

I was a little woozy afterwards as you would expect after being so heavily sedated.
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] digitalangel for being the 'responsible adult' that accompanied me home :)
Friday evening was a complete write off as I passed out in bed pretty quickly and when I got up I was still woozy.

Saturday was mostly spent tidying and in contemplation of the future.
Should I aim to conquer the world by force of arms or by financial means.
Decisions, decisions...

I like the idea of having armies of Stompy Robots of Doom™, cybernetically enhanced mutant goats and sexy fembots with a penchant for evil crushing the armies of the world, but I also like the idea of just owning *everything* without anyone knowing who really pulls the strings in the world and have people live their little lives in the illusion that anything they do might change things.

Hmm, time for my medication...

Sunday I was still tidying up until I went to The Dev to try this new beer they have and what a shocker, I actually like the taste of the beer in The Dev now.
If they were to get aircon and staff that smiles I might actually go there because I like the place rather than because it's where the vast majority of my friends go...
Afterwards I went to a metal gig as a friends cousins band was playing.
The band is called Kingsize Blues and they're actually quite good.
I first saw them when they supported Testament a month or so ago and decided they were worth seeing again.
The first band on was Muted which I sadly missed. I was told they were very good and quite Megadeth-esque.
The second band was Toytown Cash which quite frankly sucked satans balls. They might have had a chance five years ago when they could have tried to ride the Nu-Metal wave, but they had no place at a proper metal gig.
Kingsize Blues played a good metal set the entire way and my only criticism is that the lead singer really should wear a t-shirt... >_<
If you like metal you should check them out...

My weekend plans have changed and I'm now not going to Inferno on Friday.
Sorry to anyone who's expecting to see me there...

183 days to go and all is quiet on the westernnorse front...

My life has been fairly quiet for a while now for various reasons. Primarily financial ones.
However, not going out means I can devote more time to important stuff...

I have also been working harder than just about any other time in my working life that I can think of. But it's worth it. For a long time my via luminosa has seemed unfathomably long and hard, but it now seems to be a road that'll be travelled with some ease. The main reasons for this is the payrise which should come into effect from the end of February. I don't know how much yet, but considering the starting salaryof the people in our server division, it's gonna be a significant (For me) amount. I have also just been told how much I'll be getting for being on call. At first it doesn't sound like much, but then I calculated huw much it would be considering the number of hours on is on call. I then recalculated. I then picked my jaw up from the floor and I have been unable to stop grinning since :]
Oh yes, I am definitely in a serious karma burn zone at the moment. I guess saving up all that good karma over the years is finally paying off...
And it looks like I'll be able to happily afford Wacken, M'era Luna and a full viking outfit. I have all the weapons I'll need on order. And ooohhh, I'm waiting excitedly for my Dane Axe...

This month is still gonna be harsh though as I need to survive somehow, while also buying my plane ticket to Lanzarote. I'm tempted to leave it until March, and then just take the extra financial hit out of the extra gold that will be in my monthly pot... But I really don't want to risk not being able to get a flight as I am not swimming there...

Weekend was good with lots of WoW and a nice dinner provided by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] ditzy_pole. I am waiting for that poll you were gonna do :)
Viking training was fab as well. Lot's of good fighting and no spectacular bruises.
Speaking of which, a bunch of vikings will invade The Most Expensive Boozer in Christendom™ (Worlds End) tonight at 20:00. Ok, maybe not the most expensive, but it still brings a tear to my eye when I go to the counter and prepare for the financial rogering with a hedgehog-onna-stick. About £4 for a beer... Ouch.

After Forever last night rocked immensely. Nightwish should poach Floor Jansen as soon as possible :]
She has a good stage presence and she's easily far prettier than Tarja...
Ahem, but yeah, the gig was good, but they deserve a much bigger stage. Energetic and very metally. I like that a lot. I think I may have to go and invest in some of their CDs...
I missed the first support band but [livejournal.com profile] elijahtc said the sucked balls anyway.
The second support band was quite good. Good old skool metal with big hair and lot's of \mm/ :]
I'm not gonna rush to buy their CDs, but I'll definitely hope to see them again at some point...

Next up, Dragonforce on Friday...

206 days to go...

On one hand, merging distribution lists by hand is oring as all hell.
On the other hand, getting a new PC is pretty damn cool :)
If works as expected, then I would appear to have a new main workstation :)

The first day of viking training rocked. I have some great new bruises :D

We did axe training which was really good fun, and as the trainer said, some people have the attitude to be a great axemurdererfighter and some don't. As we were then doing a continuous circle (Everyone fighting and swapping partners when a fight ends) I saw that the German girl who fights with us certainly have that. I was put on the back foot by her ferocity. And she's a head and a half shorter than me. Nearly.
Scary, but at the same time quite fun.
Dane axe training should continue next week, which I'm looking forwards to.
I also took a few more recordings which I will upload later.

Drink in The Dev afterwards with [livejournal.com profile] londonjon, [livejournal.com profile] flavius_m and [livejournal.com profile] cyberglamour was a most excellent end to the day.
And when I went to ask if I could grab a chair from someone, who did I see but not recognise... [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren
It's funny how you sometimes don't recognise someone just because they have hairfalls in.
She joined us and we soon started talking food...
Mmmmm, food...

I'm hungry now.
But I'm a lucky man, [livejournal.com profile] super_boobies will be making food for me tonight and if it's just an iota as good as the last time she made proper food for me I'll be in for a treat...

More Vikingy Video Goodness

Good gym session this morning.
Although I'm slightly unhappy about the volume at which music is played in my gym, it's made up for by the fact that they have so many machines and pieces of equipment which my old gym didn't have that I'm content.
They have a proper abs machine, hyper extension bench, squat rack, T-bar row and lying leg curl amongst other things.
Glorious. They also have several calf machines which is great as my old gym only had one and I couldn't put enough weight on it to be properly effective.

This weekend was spent RPG'ing which was great fun.
[livejournal.com profile] blakeshell was the MC as always while [livejournal.com profile] britalian, [livejournal.com profile] galadkria and myself did our best to vanquish evil.
Sadly [livejournal.com profile] himal couldn't make it, and there was only a brief appearance of [livejournal.com profile] iamscritch.
Oh well, fortunately we all leveled up and my sudden ability to make peoples heads explode went down rather well :)

We ate a lot of food, drank a bit of beer/vodka/red wine and in the end we stopped as [livejournal.com profile] britalian was practically dead and the next day he had to be reminded of the last 30 minutes or so...
No hang overs the next day, so the intrepid adventurers continued on andamusingly laid the smackdown on a petty noble much to our amusement.
It's a remarkably dysfunctional group with severe trust issues between the characters... Highly amusing during play though.
And there were almost no doors.

So what to do tonight.
Popstarz or Synthetic Culture (Or both)?
Gym, Warcrack or sleep?
DS9 perhaps...
I don't really feel like going at at the moment, but that could change.
And since I'll probably not be out much until mid January maybe I should make the effort...

What do you think:
[Poll #634909]

Nevermind, just checked my cashflow situation which was rather unpleasant so I'm not going out.
If I can get home quickly enough I might pop down to the gym for a quickish leg workout...

Back from Sweden where much fun was had.

Agonoize played an amazingly stompy set which truly required great big boots of doom to stomp to properly.
They completely blew most of the other bands out of the water. Excellent crowd contact and the three guys on stage certainly had their act well put together.

Rotersand was the other excellent band of the night. Less stompy than I remember them from from last year but they were definitely one of the two higlights there.

I really must try to find some CDs with both of these bands.

All the other bands were quite frankly mediocre and Die Krupps seemed to have pulled a 'Metallica' and gone soft :(
Oh well, I still enjoyed seeing them live although I was perhaps a little disappointed due to the lack of stompy German industrial...

An excellent weekend despite the hefty financial rogering [livejournal.com profile] spikey_bastard and I received on a regular basis.
I think Spikey has been sold on both the idea of foreign travel (Next project will be Berlin) and live music...

And now something I've been looking forwards to all weekend long:
lpetersson: (Default)

In Sweden...
It's fun
No snow :(

Myself and [livejournal.com profile] spikey_bastard was a complete set of mongs and combined forces to do my usual party trick and missed our flight Friday morning.
However, persistance was met with success when someone else did the same with the late flight and we managed to get two stand by seats. Victory. And a right royal financial shafting by Ryan Air and a cabbie which didn't get us to the airport in time. Oh well, that was a wasted £100 >_<

We went to the Pre-Party at Tech Noir which was quite good.
We walked in and [livejournal.com profile] spikey_bastard saw the quality of the women and almost started crying.
I saw the beer prices and almost started crying :]

But yeah, so far it's all good although all our electronics have run out of juice due to us not having brought any power converters and not yet having been able to find one to buy.

So no more texting/picture snapping from us.

About to head off to Sweden...
See ya'll...

So, I went to see KMFDM last Sunday.
I have to admit that I'm still processing the gig in my brane...
The reason for that is that it's without doubt the best gig I have ever been to in my entire life.
No one else comes even close.
Everything about that gig was good.
Except the bar prices :]
I might write something more comprehensive at some point, but for now, all I can say is WOW!
That gig was what I had hoped the NIN gig earlier this was going to be.

Oh, and halloween pictures

I have seen many motivational posters in my life, but few beat these.
My favourite: )

I also think it's time I started an AFAIK original meme.
Comment by posting a picture of yourself that you like and which show something positive about you.
I want positivity here. Only worksafe pictures please...
And if you'd like to, go into detail why you like it.

Continues this Saturday.
As you all know, I hate garlic and I'm currently attempting to destroy it all by consuming as much of it as humanly possible :)
So, who's coming this Saturday?
And should we book a table?
lpetersson: (Default)
Ahh that was quite a super weekend.
Friday I went to Garlic & Shots with [livejournal.com profile] camillat and also managed to find a [livejournal.com profile] penguin_worship and [livejournal.com profile] flannelcat frolicking about. Good food, drink and company led on to The Cro Bar where I got to chatting with some random people while waiting for the G&S staff to show up. After nearly an hour one the randoms and I discovered that we both work for HSBC. It's a small world...
When the Cro Bar closed we still had a thirst for the demon drink and decided to go to Pepes.
Those who know Pepes also know that it really is a place for the desperate who still want drinks at 5am.
It's a small dive that's run completely illegally out of someones basement :)
Still, it was entertaining...

Saturday I went to The Edge f The World. This is also known as Hove :]
Spent an excellent and chilled day/evening/night with [livejournal.com profile] sliding_loopz who is an excellent hostess.
I was most surprised to find that I really liked the place. It had a good feel to it and I definitely hope to go back there for a visit again.
Sunday I was a bit of a mong and managed to miss my train back to London so I missed viking practice. Bugger. Went to the gym instead, so I didn't feel completely useless.

Speaking of gymming, I have decided that it's time for another overhaul of my training regime.
For the past month I have mostly been doing classes and I have seen my cardio fitness go up noticeably, but I have lost some strength.
So now I'm going back to proper weight training with a view towards doing 100kg bench, 30kg hammer curl, 125kg leg extensions and 100kg leg curls by the end of next month. This will be hard, but I can do it. And I will do it.
I will try to keep my weight sessions to under 1.5 hours (1 hour weights, 30 minutes abs + lowerback) followed by 20 - 30 minutes intensive cardio.
That should do the trick...
lpetersson: (Default)
Well, so far the weekend has been rather good.
Yes I'm in work, but as far as I'm concerned, my weekend started last night when we were RPGing, and that was a splendid night.
This morning I received my Wacken '06 T-Shirt. Yeah. Oh, I also got my ticket for Wacken '06. VICTORY!!!
Tonight is most likely going to be yet anoth Garlic & Shots night followed by The Cro Bar.
Who wants to come along?
It's not going to be a big night as I need to stay reasonably sober...

Saturday I'm off to The Edge Of The World to visit [livejournal.com profile] sliding_loopz.
That should be fun and will most likely result in light inebriation :]

Sunday I hope to make it back in time for viking practice
Sunday evening, hmmm, Dev anyone?
lpetersson: (Default)
Hooray for Garlic & Shots
Hooray for a valiant attempt at drinking them dry
Hooray for cute bar staff that keep bringing me drinks and food

And a double hooray for indiscriminate picture taking :)
Pictures are here.
There are quite a few as I have posted all 128 pictures I took...

After 15+ shots and a same if not more beers I think I'm excused from Viking practice today...
lpetersson: (Default)
Christmas is cancelled courtesy of the Danish airforce.
Hooray :)

And apparently being a godless atheist and the scourge of 'religous morality' is good for society...
Hooray for godless morality.
Hooray for Unholy Rollers (lyrics)...
I also like that Scandinavia was mentioned as a godless part of the world.
Hooray for Scandinavia :)
I will celebrate Scandinavia tonight and tomorrow in a Swedish bar/restaurant.
Hooray for Swedish bars and restaurants.

Hmm, you can tell that it's Friday and I've been paid :)
Hooray for being paid
lpetersson: (Default)
The weekends starts here :)
Tonight, Dragonforce gig at The Barfly in Camden @ 19:30 \mm/
I saw them in Wacken and they rawked.
Tomorrow it's dinner and drinks with the ever wonderful [livejournal.com profile] camillat...
Saturday is the big one:
The Champion of The Shots Night at Garlic & Shots
Their shots menu has 101 shots on it...
And we're gonna start with numero uno and work our way towards number 101. Rar.
The excitement starts at about 17:30 - 18:00.
I expect a strong showing from [livejournal.com profile] vrghost and [livejournal.com profile] elijahtc.
I also expect Garlic & Shots to run out of Parsley reasonably early on :)
lpetersson: (Default)
I suppose a quick weekend rundown is in order.
Friday I went to see The Thought Criminals at The Caernavon(sp?) Castle in Camden.
I thoroughly enjoyed them as they didn't seem to take themselves too seriously and the music was enjoyable. Good fun.
Left when the next band came on.
No matter how badly the lead singer wanted to be Anthony Kiedis they couldn't overcome the fact that they had no discernable talent.
And just cranking up the volume to headache inducing levels does not help either. And just as a headache was beginning to appear we ([livejournal.com profile] blakeshell + OH + My good self) left to go to Dance of The Dead.
As the venue was cleverly disguised and not signposted we managed to go past it twice and when we finally found it I had to go home... Hmmph.

Saturday was spent at work and then of to White Hart in Holborn to roll up new D&D characters.Nice pub but hideously expensive. I generally don't like paying over £3 for a pint.
Our great and just DM let us roll 7 ability scores and disregard the lowest. Amazingly all of us managed to roll really ow on the 7th roll.
Dammit. My dice are cursed. 10, 11, 12, 12 15 and 16 are reasonable stats I suppose. I'll definitely be a sorceror, but I haven't decided on my second class. Possibly Warmage, but we shall see. I'm currently researching...
Left to get to The Dev in time for a couple of drinks and then home to sleep and damn that was well needed.

Nightwish gig Sunday (With [livejournal.com profile] elfenkind). Yay. Paradise Lost opened and played a good metal set.
then Nightwish came on. They seem to get better each time I see them. This gig was probably just as good as their set at Wacken but at Wacken I was all the way up close which made it even better.
Chicken Samosa, tube home and sleep.
Now work. Boo to werk...
