Linux Day 3 + Warhammer geekery...

Linux Day 3:

I have managed to figure out how to connect and partition a hard drive. It turned out to be slightly simpler than certain 'helpful' websites had led me to believe. So now I'm looking forwards to plugging the last two in, and see how I get on.

I have also managed to find a reasonably decent Solitaire clone. This is very important!

I have access to MSN Messenger via Pidgin and VLC is providing me with all I need to watch my pirate downloads (Yarrrr).
I haven't sorted out an e-mail client yet. I'm tempted to see if I can get Outlook 2007 to work with Wine.
I would prefer a nicer file system utility. I wonder if Midnight Commander or Norton Commander have some descendents for Linux...
That would be sweet...

I'll try to practice with the shell tonight. I'll need to move horrendous amounts of data around (about 1tb) so I'll have ample opportunity to try that out.

Then I'll also need to map network shares more permanently. I am supremely confident that I'll be able to do this.

Once that's done, and I don't think I'll get it all done tonight, then it's time to install and configure Compiz, it's basically a program that should enhance the user experience, and a music player...

In the meanwhile, I managed to finally get around to taking pictures of my full Warhammer Army:

178 Models
8300 Points

And when I posted the pictures I realised I had left one out... /sigh

And the other thing I'll be doing tonight and over the weekend is to paint...
I need to, at the very least, finishe off some of those tanks...

wine apparantly sucks donkey balls, virtualisation is the way forward, VirtualBox or similar running in seamless application mode FTW!

Cheers, I'll give that a go.

For non-gaming I was going to fire up VMWare anyway...

But seamless mode? Yeah, that's a sexy winner ;-)

Have you not tried Evolution? You can even add Spamassassin or something to it through Package Manager.

Which file system are you using? Dolphin? Nautilius?

although not if you're conencting to exchange 2007 as as far as i'm aware they haven't re-engineered it to work wth EWS yet.

Nope, not yet. It's on my to do list...

I'm using Ext3...

Good luck with the Linux stuff. All looks pretty terrifying to me.

That's a whole lotta Space Marines! What the heck am I letting myself in for? I just picked up the Chaos Space Marine Codex on the way home from work, so I guess I know what I'm going to collect as a second faction...

It's not as bad as it appears at first ^_^

Yup, that's a lot of marines, but that's largely because I went a little crazy with the shopping...
Ooohhhh, Chaos marines, they're quite cool ^_^
Do you know which Chaos Power you'll declare for? Or Chaos Undivided?

When you have enough for a 500-750 point army we should have a game...

Yup, as I just declared in my LJ post (in which I placed the blame for my re-entry to the hobby firmly upon you!) I think I am going for Biel Tan Eldar and Emperor's Children Marines - well something Slaanesh-y anyway. Seemed appropriate to counterpoint the Eldar. And I've been enjoying reading Fulgrim at the moment.

I was slightly diasappointed to read in the Codex that it's not as easy to mix 'n match the Daemons with the marines as I first thought. I was hoping to field more than just the Daemonettes alongside the marines. I love that Masque model.

I shall get cracking with the painting and definitely take you up on the offer of a game. You'll have to go easy on the newbie though!

Cool, sounds good ^_^

Yeah, it's a shame that Chaos Marines can't take daemons quite so easily, but since they're their own codex now it makes sense I guess...

Don't worry, I will make a very basic army when we have a game...

And as I said on your own LJ, you'd be welcome to come over on the 14th...
