AAAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH
AAAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH
AAAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH
AAAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH

BOLLOX BOLLOX BOLLOX.

90+ gb worth of mp3s. Gone.
All my pictures. Gone
All my personal files. Gone

I do however have one rather expensive harddisk shaped doorstopper.

I really need a new I con which can convey how pissed off I am.

And try to see if you can guess whether I made a back up...

This sucks such mighty wang.

I have managed to co-erce another pc into at least recognizing that the harddrive exists. It doesn't believe me when I tell it that there's a shit load of files on it which I'd quite like to move else where.

Hmmm, annoying.

I really don't want to lose all those files

And just to add insult to injury:
The mouse on this pc is buggered.
[livejournal.com profile] nailbug seems to be pissed off.
I have really bad nicotine cravings.
I'm thirsty after milk and I forgot to buy some.
And I'm just generally annoyed and grumpy.

Maybe I should just go to bed

Update:
Windows 2000 has been convinced taht the files do indeed exist and is now recovering them.
I can't bear to look at the monitor while the files are listed as they are recovered. If any Bad Messages flash past I might start weeping...

And it would appear that Comical Ali has gotten a job with The Great Beast of Redmond in their pr department.
In his first press conference he is reported to have declared:

"There are no bugs in Windows. None at all. It's all lies. Lies I tell you.
Linux is not a threat and we are not worried.
There are in fact no Linux installations anywhere. Anywhere at all."

He seems to have found some ideological friends there :)

I dread to say that I've managed to save all my files because Sod's law demands that they will mysteriously disappear if I say that, so I will say instead that it would appear that I need to go and buy lot's of cd's tomorrow so I can make back-ups off all my im,portant files...

Tomorrow or Saturday I'll build the pc I promised [livejournal.com profile] sistercarrion that she could have.
[livejournal.com profile] nailbug also need to come around and see if she has room for the pc she can borrow.

And with a bit of luck, I might have another few pc's which will be free to a good home...

I have discovered a couple of good things about my harddrive woes (Cue wrist-to-forehead-woe-is-me).

I have to start deleting stuff which I really should have done ages ago. Let's face it. If you're running out of space across 7 computers with a total of over 400gb of storage, it's time to start trimming.
So far I've just bought bigger and bigger HDDs, but with the death of my 180gb drive something has to be done.
I have a software folder which had 20gb of software in it. I'm now down to 13gb and I'm still deleting.
I have ripped all my own cd's to mp3 at 320kbps. They are now all going to be deleted and re-ripped later at a more sensible 224kbps. there's also a few other things I'll be getting rid off.

Unfortunately I can't find the CD-burning software which came with my burner, and for some reasong older versions of Nero don't regognize my burner. Grrr.
Time to see if I still have the cd. Otherwise I'll be fuX0r3d.

Also, shifting 150gb across a 10mbps network is slow. Very slow. So at the moment I'm swapping harddrives between the machine with the burner, and the machine with the failing harddrive and moving my files locally. It might sound odd, but it's a hell of a lot faster than copying via the network...

Found my receipt for the faulty harddrive. And I have asked the nice (I hope) people at Dabs to take it back and give me a new one.
I just hope they don't inspect it and shop my for all the mp3's on it...
