Dec. 14th, 2004 02:56 pmSo, one of my machines couldn't see the rest of my network after I put Win2k Server on it.
Tried all sorts of configurations, pinging, tracing and so on, and yet, there was no joy.
I then decided that maybe the awesome power of my mind wasn't enough and that maybe I should plug the the network cable in.
Oddly it works now...

Date: 2004-12-14 06:09 pm (UTC)Oh no, not again.
Date: 2004-12-14 08:01 pm (UTC)Thanks for the laugh - in a day full of management fuckwittage it's nice to share the pain when it's one of us :)
But surely it's not your first time...?
O.

Date: 2004-12-14 08:52 pm (UTC)I built it. It was all plugged in perfectly. Turned it on... nothing appears on the monitor. Hear it beep, and start booting... but no display.
Off it goes and out all the bits come. Everything checked, and double checked. Video card is plugged in properly. Everything is tickety boo. Turn it on... no display. Check the monitor is plugged into the video card. It is...
Next we try the uber-minimal configuration: just processor, memory, graphics card and all the related wiring. Still no display on the monitor.
Two hours, and several "let's try it with a different " later... one of my colleagues comes over and turns the brightness up on the monitor.
*sigh*
