I'm curious here, [livejournal.com profile] digitalangel was apparently a bit surprised to discover that I have about 40 or so identical towels, but I think it's entirely normal...

What you you think?

It depends on the size.. 40 big Beach towels could be a bit space consuming ;-)

Why would you need 40? Even if you used a different one every day, you'd only need 7 big and 7 small, surely? Or do you leave them in damp, mouldering piles for weeks on end before getting round to washing a batch?

Well, most of them have been neatly folded and put in drawers.
I don't leave anything in mouldy heaps :)

Depends how much space you have for them...if they spill over, it's too many, simple as that, be it 10 or 50.

hygiene is important but i don't think you need 40 towels to achieve it! :)

40?
dude, you total ponce!
i own about 4! and i still smell better than you!

the answer is: yes, 40 is very excessive!

i mean, if you were married with about 6 kids and both family in laws lived with you then 40 would be normal/needed!

I just did a quick mental add-up and I reckon I have about 30, so given that included a swimming towel each plus bath towels, hand towels, middle sized towels and bath mats plus two towels I used for the kitchen, between the five people who live here I reckon that 40 might be a leetle excessive for one person!

I do 1-2 loads of washing every day though so they are all regularly recycled!

I suppose it depends how big your family is, how many children, pets you have, how often you have guests... they would come in handy, if you, say, ever got into Bikram's Yoga =)

Yes, it's a bit much for one person, but as long as they're clean and neatly folded, not in anyone's way, I don't see the harm in having 40 towels.
