199 days to go...

Wow.
The 13th Warrior is a really good movie.
I tried to watch it some time last year and thought: 'What a load of toss...'
But now that I concentrated mostly on the movie I thought it was really good.
I guess it helps that I can go fishing in WoW at the same time :)
It's basically about a fancy arab who fancies the wrong woman and gets sent to the frozen north to be an ambassador for the Arabs.
WTF?
I don't remember hearinging about ambassadors to Scandinavia back in the viking age... Never mind, I'll let that one pass...
The rest of the movie is about how he gets up north, learns to dislike our customs and then learns to respect them while figthing an evil and mysterious foe.
One thing that really impressed was the fact that all the norsemen actually spoke Danish/Swedish/Norwegian... Very impressive and very unexpected.
Not one to watch if you want a deep plot, but if you want an easily accessible movie that doesn't resuire any afterthought, this is it...

And Viking training today was great. More Dane-Axe training. Yay.
And while I'm waiting for my own Dane-Axe to be crafted, the guy who will be getting it for me said he will bring his in for me to use in the meanwhile. Score... :D

And afterwards it was off to The Dev for a drink or two with some great company...

I suppose a quick weekend rundown is in order.
Friday I went to see The Thought Criminals at The Caernavon(sp?) Castle in Camden.
I thoroughly enjoyed them as they didn't seem to take themselves too seriously and the music was enjoyable. Good fun.
Left when the next band came on.
No matter how badly the lead singer wanted to be Anthony Kiedis they couldn't overcome the fact that they had no discernable talent.
And just cranking up the volume to headache inducing levels does not help either. And just as a headache was beginning to appear we ([livejournal.com profile] blakeshell + OH + My good self) left to go to Dance of The Dead.
As the venue was cleverly disguised and not signposted we managed to go past it twice and when we finally found it I had to go home... Hmmph.

Saturday was spent at work and then of to White Hart in Holborn to roll up new D&D characters.Nice pub but hideously expensive. I generally don't like paying over £3 for a pint.
Our great and just DM let us roll 7 ability scores and disregard the lowest. Amazingly all of us managed to roll really ow on the 7th roll.
Dammit. My dice are cursed. 10, 11, 12, 12 15 and 16 are reasonable stats I suppose. I'll definitely be a sorceror, but I haven't decided on my second class. Possibly Warmage, but we shall see. I'm currently researching...
Left to get to The Dev in time for a couple of drinks and then home to sleep and damn that was well needed.

Nightwish gig Sunday (With [livejournal.com profile] elfenkind). Yay. Paradise Lost opened and played a good metal set.
then Nightwish came on. They seem to get better each time I see them. This gig was probably just as good as their set at Wacken but at Wacken I was all the way up close which made it even better.
Chicken Samosa, tube home and sleep.
Now work. Boo to werk...

Well, that was a damn good weekend.
It started Thursday when I celebrated [livejournal.com profile] blakeshell's birthday.
[livejournal.com profile] himal was there which was nice as he hasn't been out in ages.
The organ concert we went to wasn't exactly my kinda thing and fortunately the others were of the same opinion so we left about halfway through.
We then went to a nice little pub where I got a pint of good German beer for only... £1.97.
Wow, that must be the cheapest pint in The City.

Dead & Buried was good as always. Spent most of the evening chatting to [livejournal.com profile] bad_faery and [livejournal.com profile] glenndm. It was good to see lots of people I hadn't seen in a while.
On the way home we popped by a kebab shop so [livejournal.com profile] spikey_bastard could have his traditional post-club kebab :)
£7 but it was a bloody big and good kebab with meaty treats of much delight.

Crashed, woke up, went to Camden, spent money.
Got a rather nice Cyberdog top which I can wear and I almost don't have to suck my gut in. Well, not much anyway :)
Also got a new pair of New Rock boots. Yay.
They are exactly like my old pair, but with slightly shorter straps. The reason is that I have finally given up trying to clean my old ones.
Simply too much mud and dust on them, so they will be my festival shoes from now on, and my new ones will be for normal day to day use.
Then The Dev, home, preen and Garlic & Shots. Mmmmm.
Texas xxx-Hot Chili In a Pan. Yummie.
Went to Slimes afterwards but my companions had very little alcohol as we left G&S after 23:00. Ooops.
Slimes was fantastic. One of my best in a long time. Saw and chatted to many people. Danced lots. Had fun.
And how nice it is to be the one who managed to dance till the very end non-munted, when ones munted friends couldn't.
Phear my l33t Danish stamina.

Home to catch a few hours kip and then off to Camden again. I used my switch card with utter impunity and have been rewarded with several goodies. 2 Corvus Corax CDs, Torture Garden tickets, more stuff from Cyberdog and a pair of white New Rock trainers :)
Woo yay.

Then Dev with lot's more people I hadn't seen in ages and ages. It was good. Very good.

So, a really good weekend where I saw lot's of people I hadn't seen for a while. I would give this weekend 8 golden stars out of ten.
People really shouldn't move to Luton ;)

Quick weekend write up is in order I suppose.
Friday was relatively quiet with a few beers after work with some Danish people. Jolly good fun.

Friday [livejournal.com profile] naziboy and I tried to find some goths in Highbury, but I'm either a spakke or blind, 'cos we didn't find them in the only Whetherspoons we could find. So we went to Camden where we were later joined by [livejournal.com profile] faerierhona, [livejournal.com profile] vampwillow, [livejournal.com profile] zenmeisterin and a chap called Simon who may or may not have an LJ. As I'm still enjoying food more than usual due to not having wisdom teeth, so I gorged myself on pasta and buffalo wings. Mmmm. A great time was had although all too brief.
I find it odd though that a big animal like a buffalo can have such small wings.
Sunday [livejournal.com profile] naziboy and I met up with [livejournal.com profile] fuzzball and [livejournal.com profile] barry_hug_me in The Dev. I can't remember why, but all of a sudden [livejournal.com profile] naziboy and [livejournal.com profile] fuzzball decided to go and get a piercing.
Later we rented Basic which is good if you like courtroom dramas, but suck if you want big explosions.
