I just remembered something.
In the van yesterday, the driver and I discussed a number of things including law and law enforcement, and I came to think of something:

Prostitution is illegal, but as soon as you put a camera or a video recorder in front of the action, it's suddenly legal. Why is that?

I'm confused now because the term 'prostitute' is usually only used to describe someone who stands in the street to be picked up for sex by pervy old men (or pervy young men!), or who work in 'houses of ill repute'. I've never seen a 'naughty' vid saying it features 'the best prostitutes in the country' or similar, they're always caleld 'actresses'. So does that mean the women in those type of films are in reality 'prostitutes' and not 'actresses'? That's why I was confused by your post but that's just the way I think - I'll leave your 'debate' to people who have the correct information! I was just offering my opinion :)

I've just read [livejournal.com profile] silverfiligree's comment, and she's talking about the definition of what is and isn't illegal in the subject of 'prostitution', therefore maybe people get away with filming/photographing these things because the women in them are listed as 'actresses' and not 'prostitutes', which is why it's not illegal...or something. Also even if it's a woman standing on a street corner propositioning a guy in a car, it's still just images on a tv screen/in a magazine, so it's not 'real life' and it's not 'really' prostitution so they can't be prosecuted. OK I'm not making sense now while trying to sort all my thoughs out, but I hope all this gave you a giggle anyway!

Heh, the reason why you stopped making sense is probably due to the legislation not making any sense :)
As [livejournal.com profile] silverfiligree pointeed out, the legislation is rather byzantine. I think I'll go and do something that's a bit easier on the brain. Namely read War and Peace or Das Kapital :)

You are of course totally correct.
My point was just that there isn't really any difference. Whether it be the men or women in either industry ;)

You could say that porno sex isn't "real" sex (there is a lot of faking), the same way as a murder is illegal but a movie murder is not, as it's just special effects (leaving snuffs out, of course).
